How Do I Join or Start A Community Group?

JOIN - All the activities listed in Our Groups are affiliated groups or independent organisations. If you are interested in joining any please either contact them directly for up-to-date information about the availability of places, cost, etc, or ring St Mary’s office on 020 8850 2040.

START A GROUP – An Affiliated Group shall be any not for profit society, company, or unincorporated association with an open-access community purpose which is located in, or serves, the area, provided the majority of the organisation’s membership comes from within the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

The group’s activities can have a number of restrictions but must be open to all of the community to participate – open access.

The membership fee for activities covers the cost of expenditure and is not for profit. Any excess income is invested into a charitable cause or reinvested into the group’s activities.

Individual members must be over 18 years old, resident or working in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and have an interest in the community. To support our affiliated community groups St Mary’s will ensure their bookings are coordinated for the right time and room and set up as the groups requires, in a welcoming, safe and warm building.

What Does it Cost?

There is an annual membership fee for affiliated groups. Our affiliated groups also pay a discounted room hire fee based on their choice of booking times (day time or evening) and their choice of room, subject to availability. New affiliated groups must be approved by our Board of Trustees before bookings can start.
